ATLANTA, GA – Bandit Lites is thrilled to once again have provided the lights for the 7th Annual Black Music Honors. Held by Central City Productions at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, the glamorous two-hour event celebrated artists and musicians who have influenced and made significant contributions to American music. The televised special is set to air in national broadcast syndication Saturday, June 4 – Sunday, July 3 and on Bounce TV on Saturday, June 25.
This year marked the return of a live studio audience, and lighting designer Mark Carver rose to the challenge of crafting distinctive looks for the diverse genre of music and artists. This year’s event honored iconic musical acts Dru Hill, The Whispers, Karyn White, Tevin Campbell, Keri Hilson and the gospel duo Mary Mary.
Bandit Lites supplied more than 170 fixtures, including Ayrton Ghiblis, Chauvet Rogue R2X Washes, Claypaky B-EYE K20, Elation Smarty Hybrids, Elation ACL 360i, GLP X4 Bar 20 and GLP JDC1 LED Strobes.
Carver utilized the Ghiblis for key and backlights as well as gobo effects over the stage. The B-EYES provided eye candy and beam effect lights to accent the music. Smartys were used for beam light and hard gobos for air effects while the JDC 1 offered both strobe effects and eye candy. Elation ACL 360i were used for beam effects and musical accents.
“I always get a lot of mileage out of the multi-use B-EYE in Pixel Mode, providing great punctuation to the music,” said Carver. “The Elation ACL 360i were a punchy nice surprise for their color and speed.”
With a tight frame to load in, program, rehearse and perform a live show, it was imperative the system arrived well-prepped and ready to go.
“Thanks to (Project Manager) Matt King and Mike Golden, we had everything we needed,” finished Carver. “With the hard work and attention of Bandit techs Justin Wilks and Hayley Elliot, the system was installed quickly and performed flawlessly at 100 percent.”
